About the Qualifications


tUptrend College's Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Business Management courses are specially designed for those who work, or wish to work, in areas of business that involve an understanding of the fundamentals of business management. These courses also guide the student to comprehend the principles and practice of accounting, economics, marketing and human resource management. They are equivalent to the first two years of a degree course. The modules given at each stage prepare the candidate to understand the complex and profound topics that they study in the final year of the degree course. Graduates of the Advanced Diploma in Business Management can proceed to the Final Year of the Heriot-Watt University Bachelor's degree delivered through the partnership between Heriot-Watt University, UK, and Uptrend College, Singapore.  

Course Duration


Part-Time: 18 months
Full-Time:
 24 months (inclusive of term and examination breaks)

 

Note: Students who attain 240 credits¹ including core module set (BM01) will be awarded the Diploma in Business Management. Students must attain 480 credits¹ in total to be awarded the Advanced Diploma. Each Module Set is 60 credit points.

Course delivery


The course will be delivered on a part-time basis in 138 lessons of 3 hours each and also on a full-time basis, Mondays - Fridays, 3 hours daily.

The course is wholly delivered in Singapore. Students will have access to local tutors and resources provided by Uptrend College. Resources and materials provided for students will include lecture notes and references for reading in books, professional journals, articles and websites.

The Diploma in Business Management is an 8-module qualification of which students have to attain 240 credits in total (including core modules). Students who attain all 480 credits will be awarded the Advanced Diploma. Students who have prior studies or work experience can apply for credit transfers. Each module set is 60 credit points.

Entry Criteria
  • Diploma in Business Management - GCE 'N' and 'O' Levels with a pass in English or equivalent
  • Advanced Diploma in Business Management - Diploma in Business Management or equivalent

Credit Transfer: Students who have prior studies from other institutions or work experience are eligible for advanced standing. Applicants would need to complete the Application for Credit Transfer form. The Academic Board will assess the student's application and may grant the student with some exemptions from some of the modules. Supporting documents e.g. copies of transcript, letters from current or previous employer stating job details and curriculum vitae are to be submitted to our Administrator for processing. Result will be made known within 3 weeks. Relevant fees may also apply.

Promotion & Award Criteria
  • Minimum 75% attendance is required for each module to qualify for a Certificate of Attendance if requested and be eligible to sit for the exam
  • Students who pass each module will be awarded credits.
  • Diploma in Business Management – Students who have passed core module set BM01 and 3 elective module sets (50% mark) with a total of 240 credits (including credit transfer) will be awarded the Diploma in Business Management
  • Advanced Diploma in Business Management – Students who have passed all module sets (50% mark) with a total of 480 credits (including credit transfer) will be awarded the Advanced Diploma in Business Management
  • Upon completion of Advanced Diploma in Business Management, students will be entitled to enter the final year of the Heriot-Watt Management Program
